Fieldwalking
The Oadby and Wigston Fieldwork Group (OWFG) is a partner group with Leicestershire Fieldworkers. Leicestershire Fieldworkers (formerly Leicestershire Museums Archaeological Fieldwork Group), through its local Groups since 1976, has undertaken a programme of archaeological fieldwork throughout Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. The Group has its own Newsletter 'The Fieldworker' and provides training courses for members in fieldwalking techniques. Many groups also carry out small excavations and test pitting in their local area. The Fieldworkers are affiliated to the Council for British Archaeology, work closely with University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS), and with the Portable Antiquities Scheme and archaeologists from Leicestershire County Council. The Fieldworkers help to set up and support local groups, such as The Oadby & Wigston Fieldwork Group (OWFG), who wish to fieldwalk or undertake projects to investigate their local area. ---oooOOOooo---
